Welcome to the
SHINE Coalition

What is SHINE?

Solar Helping Ignite Neighborhood Economies (SHINE) is a coalition of organizations that use solar to help Boston  residents of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and Hyde Park escape poverty and improve their communities. We do this through solar job training for new workers, and reduced energy burden with savings from local community solar projects.

SHINE was created to act on environmental and economic justice.

The percentage of Black workers in the Massachusetts clean energy economy trails Black participation in the overall Massachusetts workforce. And 88% of employers say they're having trouble finding qualified workers.

We serve the communities of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and Hyde Park. SHINE operates a solar training facility on Chauncy Street in downtown Boston. And our Community Powerhouse solar sites are located around Greater Boston.

Where we work

Applications are now open for the Fall 2024 training session.

Coalition Members

Fighting poverty and growing the workforce for the clean economy takes the whole community. Our coalition is made up of organizations who host solar projects on their roofs,  local solar businesses, and the solar workforce trainees and the organizations who support and train them.
